Pony Hoodie 3 Pattern PDF eBook (pattern)

Can’t choose which Pony Hoodie version you like best? Then buy all 3 together in one 36-page PDF ebook! Includes an extra bonus pattern for crochet buttons and button loops.

This is a downloadable pdf of 3 knitting patterns (and a bonus crochet pattern) in sizes 2-4 years, 4-6 years and 6-8 years. Each Pony Hoodie version is close-fitting and smooth (and 2 are entirely seamless) because they’re knitted in one piece, even those pony ears. The shoulders and body are gently shaped to suit a child’s body, and to make that gloriously enormous hood sit comfortably. The hood is plenty big enough to be a pony disguise, or flop around like a cape, however you prefer to wear it.

The patterns are aimed at intermediate – advanced knitters. You need to know how to:

  • Increase and decrease stitches;
  • Work with different colours;
  • Pick up and work stitches;
  • Use stitch markers;
  • Use Magic Loop technique with a circular needle;
  • Either graft using Kitchener stitch or do 3-needle cast-off or cast-off conventionally and seam up afterwards.

Needles and Notions

6mm [UK 4 / US 10] circular needle 40cm [16in] or longer (or size to obtain gauge)

4 stitch holders or waste yarn
4 safety pins

Simple Pony Hoodie (pattern)

I designed this pony-eared hoodie for my youngest pony-mad daughter: close-fitting, yet long enough in the sleeve and body that she can bend and stretch and cause mischief and mayhem without getting draughts. The garment is smooth and entirely seamless because it’s knitted in one piece (even the ears). The shoulders and body are gently shaped to suit a child’s body, and to make that gloriously enormous hood sit comfortably. The hood is plenty big enough to be a pony disguise, or flop around like a cape, however you prefer to wear it.

Bird Crochet Mittens (pattern)

Using one basic pattern, you can crochet owl, puffin or rockhopper penguin mittens to fit all ages, from toddler – adult. Five different sizing options are given, to fit hands from 4.5” to 8.5” wide (when measured around the palm above the thumb).

Mittens are crocheted top-down from the finger tips to the wrist. A hidden little wristband of crocheted ribbing on the inside helps the mitten cling to the hand, and allows the sleeve of your jacket to sit neatly between the mitten wristband and gauntlet, minimising draughts. Eyes are crocheted separately and sewn on at the end, and beaks embroidered.

The basic pattern is intermediate in difficulty: you work in the round, in continual circles as well as back and forth. You need to know how to do basic crochet stitches and how to join a round with a slip stitch. If you work your mittens in more than one colour, you need to know how to strand the unused colours.

The pattern is written in UK crochet terms; however it’s simple to translate to US terms, and US equivalents are given.

You’ll need approx 110 yds of main colour DK (light worsted) weight yarn for the smallest size (toddler) up to 275 yds for the largest size (man). You’ll also need between 30 – 50 yds of contrast yarn for eyes if you’re making the puffin or owl versions, plus scraps for beak embroidery.

Pattern uses 4mm and 3.5mm crochet hooks.

Your purchase includes 2 PDFs: a written pattern with detailed instructions and photographs, and a print-friendly version.

Aran Rainbow Baby Blanket (pattern)

muted highland rainbow blanket muted rainbow swirlIf you’re going to knit an heirloom blanket for a baby, this strikingly beautiful pram blanket or throw is certainly different and special!

A muted rainbow of stripes combine with a variety of textures and different aran-style patterns to make this just as pretty knitted in one colour as in 6.

It’s knit using approx 6 x 50g balls of DK yarn (approx 600 – 700 metres of yarn in total) in one piece with 4.5mm knitting needles. Its optional, simple crochet border uses a 4.5mm hook.

Measuring approx 28 x 18 inches (70 x 46cm) when finished, it’s aimed at knitters who are already confident using a cable needle and working with colour.

The knitting pattern is a 2MB pdf that’s available to download immediately after payment. To try to accommodate all preferences, I’ve provided both written and charted instructions. I’ve also laid out the knitting pattern so that you only need to print the specific pages that you need, depending on whether you prefer your instructions row-by-row, or as individual stripe-patterns.
